Here are the first images and information on the Toyota BZ4X compact electric utility vehicle, Toyota’s first mass produced EV. Let’s get a few things out of the way first. This new electric SUV will have up to 400km or 250 miles of range with the FWD model. This is almost exactly the same range of VW’s ID.4. Range for the AWD model has not been announced. The other crucial information is that Toyota will have this car for sale and in the market by the middle of 2022, so just over half a year from now. Okay, now more details. The bZ4X stands for beyond zero, expect to see the bZ name used on more vehicles. Toyota has been a worldwide leader of hybrids, plug ins and hydrogen vehicles and plans to have 70 models with some level of electrification in the market by 2025. This allows Toyota to have vehicles for markets based on things like charging infrastructure and the ability of the public to afford the type of technology that works in specific markets around the world. The good news is that 15 of the 70 electrified models will be pure EVs. Unlike the concept shown several months ago, this new production model has a two-tone look that make it look a bit clumsy, but we’ll have to see it in person. There are large hammerhead-like to the front and headlamps, with a trapezoidal rear theme. BTW, this is based on the TNGA platform, but this has been modified to incorporate the battery into the structure for safety, Toyota calls this e-TNGA. There is a large centre screen, what size we don’t know but this looks similar to the new 14-inch screen recently introduced in the new Lexus NX. Toyota says this utility will be very spacious, with a lot of legroom and space side-to-side. A lithium-Ion battery provides the power but the capacity has not been revealed but Toyot ahs confirmed this will be sold as FWD and AWD models. In fact Toyota has engineered this to have some off-road capability. To keep everyone warm in cold climates, a heat pump has been added for heating and AC, plus there are heated seats and steering wheel, plus a first for Toyota, a front seat radiant floor heating system for the feet and legs. So, there it is, the production version of the bZ4X, which will be coming very soon, in the summer of 2022. Thanks for watching and please subscribe for more virtual car releases.
