Parking system in Japan
Japan has very different parking system for cars and bicycles- Automatic and Hydraulic car parking. Hydraulic system increases parking space inside a parking lot. Parking systems are operated by hydraulic pumps that move cars into a storage area. It spins your car around, and takes it inside and automatically parks it. One of the most popular parking is coin parking. Before you park, you will get to know whether the parking is vacant or full.
When there is a vacant parking space, you can see the “vacant” (空) sign in (空車) green or in white letters . If the parking is full it will show full sign 満車) in red letters . When you park in "Coin Parking" there is some kind of metal plate that will lift up. The locking flap will automatically rise within 3 to 5 minutes after you parked the car and you can’t leave without paying parking fees.
The parking fees in Tokyo area is 30,000 per month .
In public parking fares for coin parking depends on the location, day and time. Fares usually start at 100 yen per 10, 15 or 30 minutes. However, in very urban or tourist areas, the fare often goes up to over 1,000 yen per hour.
