Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says Victorian Liberal MP Tim Smith “needs to consider carefully” what Victorian Liberal Leader Matthew Guy has said about his career.
It comes after Mr Smith crashed his car while driving with a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit.
He was told by his party leader, Matthew Guy, not to contest at the next election following the incident.
Mr Frydenberg slammed Mr Smith’s actions as “unacceptable” and “dangerous,” and it was good no one was injured in the crash.
“It is obviously an event that has consequences; Tim’s already stood down, and rightly so, from the shadow cabinet, and now he has to carefully consider his future, and he should have the time to do that,” he told Sky News Australia.
Mr Frydenberg said any actions Mr Smith took regarding his political career are “a decision for him” to make and should also fulfil his commitments in his local community as their MP.
