Duty to accommodate and what you need to know about it. An employer has the duty to accommodate a disabled employee. Employment lawyer Lior Samfiru, partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, explains when an employer has a duty to accommodate, what steps the employer might need to take to accommodate an employee, and how far an employer has to go to make accommodations for an employee.
The duty to accommodate might include complying with a medical leave. An employer may also be required to provide and employee with modified duties, flexible hours, or the ability to work from home. Employers must also make religious accommodations.
