The transfiguration of Jesus Christ from this narrative was the only time Jesus revealed His glory in this way while He was still here on earth. The word “transfiguration” gives us the word “metamorphosis” in English. A metamorphosis is a change on the outside that comes from the inside. The Lord’s glory was not reflected but rather radiated from within. There was a change on the outside that came from within as He allowed His essential glory to shine forth. It was described by the synoptic Gospels this way - it shone as brightly as the sun (Matthew 17:2), it became dazzling white, far whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make (Mark 9:3) and it transformed and became dazzling white (Luke 9:29). In His divine wisdom, He selected Peter, James and John, His inner circle to witness this captivating event that will forever alter their lives.
